🧠 How Täglich Deutsch Works

Täglich Deutsch is a free German vocabulary trainer based on the Spaced Repetition System (SRS). This method helps you review words just when you're about to forget them, ensuring they are securely stored in your long-term memory.

📦 The Box System

New words start in Box 0. With each correct answer, they move up a level, and the intervals between reviews increase:

• Box 1: Review after 1 day
• Box 2: Review after 3 days
• Box 3: Review after 7 days
• Box 4: Review after 14 days
• Box 5: Review after 30 days (Mastery achieved!)

If you answer a word incorrectly, it drops to the Error Box. But don't worry: words in this box still contribute to your score until you correct them.

Additionally, you can move mastered words directly to Box 5 by clicking 'Mastered', so they will only be reviewed again in 30 days.

💡 Important Learning Tips

For maximum success, we recommend:

• 📝 Learn Articles: Always learn nouns with their articles der, die or das (e.g., 'der Tisch').
• 🏃 Verbs with att: Memorize verbs in their infinitive form with (e.g., 'essen').
• ⏱️ Consistency: Just 5 to 10 minutes of daily practice is more effective than studying for hours once a week.
• 📶 Offline Learning: Download all audio files (button at the bottom) to learn on the go without an internet connection.

🏆 ELO Score & Ranks

Your proficiency score (ELO) shows your learning level. It's based on three factors:

1. Level: More difficult words (e.g., C1) give more points than beginner words (A1).
2. Progress: Words in higher boxes give significantly more points (long-term memory).
3. Accuracy: Frequent mistakes lower a word's score.

🛡️ Beginner's Protection: Up to a score of 100, mistakes are not statistically penalized to make starting easier.

🎲 Risk Mode (Grammar Training)

Correctly answered a question? For many words, you can challenge your luck! Click Risk! to get a grammatical bonus task (fill-in-the-blank).

• 🌟 Variety: Practice Verbs (tenses), Nouns (Singular/Plural), Adjectives (Comparison/Adverb), or Time expressions.
• ⚠️ Risk: An incorrect answer means you get nothing (Zero points). You can filter the types below the Risk button.
• 💡 Learning Effect: The solution box shows all forms with icons. Click an icon to see the grammatical explanation (e.g., 'definite form plural').

🔍 Pro Search & Dictionary

The dictionary is more than just a search tool. Use the 📑 Filter Icon to filter by word type, language level, or specific SRS boxes.

🔊 Pronunciation & Speed

Listen to every word and sentence. For complex example sentences, you can adjust the playback speed (0.6x, 0.8x, 1.0x) to better understand German phonetics.

🔐 Security & Backup

Since we don't store personal data, your Sync Code is your only password. Save it safely elsewhere (e.g., as a screenshot or QR code) to recover your progress on a new device.

💡 The Hint Feature (Multiple Choice)

Absolutely stuck on a word? Click Hint to solve the vocabulary as a small quiz with 4 possible answers.

• 🎯 Learning Effect: You will see similar words from the same category and can find the correct form through elimination.
• ⚖️ Balance: The word is only considered solved for the current session. It doesn't move to the next box and provides no ELO points (mastery).

📊 Language Levels (CEFR)

Täglich Deutsch is aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR):

• A1/A2: Basic language use (everyday life, family).
• B1/B2: Independent language use (work, more complex texts).
• C1/C2: Proficient language use (Expert to native level).

Täglich Deutsch is designed for maximum flexibility. Here are the most common scenarios:

• 👨‍👩‍👧 Scenario 1: One device, multiple people Perfect for families. You can share a tablet and create a separate profile for everyone. Your learning progress, boxes, and streaks are kept strictly separate.
• 💻📱 Scenario 2: Seamless device switching Learn on your phone in the morning and continue the session on your laptop in the evening. Click your profile icon 👤 -> Profile -> 'Change Synchronization' (type code) or 'Scan Sync Code' (camera).
• 🔑 Scenario 3: Security & Backup Since we don't store passwords, your sync code is your only digital key. Save it externally as a backup.
• 🔒 Scenario 4: Protect your privacy Use a profile PIN to prevent someone from accidentally altering your learning progress.
• ⚡ Scenario 5: Quick device pairing Create a temporary 6-digit code on your main device for a new device. Both profiles are instantly connected.

Synchronization occurs automatically in the background when an internet connection is active.
